*1968 à Nicore┼čti (RO)

Born in 1968 in Nicore┼čti (Romania), Florin Balaban is now living in Luxembourg with his wife Sandra and their two boys Andrei and Stefan.

Self-taught in the arts, he is a degree holder in physical and sport education from the Transylvania Brasov University (1995). In 1996 he settled in Luxembourg as an editorial cartoonist for international politics for the daily newspaper Luxemburger Wort and since 1999 for La Voix du Luxembourg. Since he founded with his wife the Museum of Caricature and Cartoon in Vianden he became a key figure in the small community of Luxembourgish cartoonists and caricaturists.

Some of his work clearly shows cartoon-like features such as a more subtle imagery, a lack of text and greater focus on aesthetics. But most of his published artwork has the distinctive features of caricatures. By now he ought to have published around 7000 drawings.

Florin Balaban has held twenty personal exhibitions in Luxembourg, Romania, Switzerland, Germany and Scotland where he won many awards and distinctions: He organises the International Contest of Caricature and Cartoon in Vianden and has published three books as for instance Informal there’s nothing like it (2006). He also took part in collective exhibitions in Luxembourg, Greece, Italy and France.
